このたび、IABCジャパンチャプター代表を拝命しました上瀧（こうたき）と申します。

IABCジャパンは、初代代表である雨宮さんが約10年にわたり礎を築かれ、続く築地さんが5年間、国際ネットワークの運営体制強化に尽力されてきました。歴代代表の皆さまが積み重ねてこられた歩みに深く敬意を表し、その流れを受け継ぐ責任の重さを感じております。

IABCとの出会いは、産休から復帰した直後、キャリアの指針を見失っていた時期でした。役割の変化に戸惑いがあった中で、国際的な視点を持つコミュニケーションのコミュニティに触れたことは、大きな転機となりました。とりわけ、オーストラリアを拠点とするAPACのリーダーシップチームや、ニューヨークの国際会議本部との密なやり取りを通じて、国際的な非営利組織の運営に携わる機会を得られたことは、視野と人脈を広げるだけでなく、自身のキャリアを再構築するうえで大きな支えとなっています。

これまで約30年間、企業広報やアドバイザリーの実務に携わる中で、多様なステークホルダーとの対話の重要性を実感してきました。今後は、IABCジャパンの会員の皆さまや国内外のコミュニケーションの専門家の皆さまと学び合いながら、理事・役員の方々と協力し、当チャプターの活動をさらに実りあるものへと発展させていきたいと考えています。

テクノロジーの加速的な進歩や AI の急速な普及、さらには地政学的な緊張の高まりにより、私たちを取り巻く環境は、これまでの前提が通用しないほど予測が難しいものになっています。想像もしなかった出来事が次々と現実となる今、コミュニケーションの専門性は「信頼」を築き、それを持続させるための不可欠な基盤です。企業・組織におけるコミュニケーションの役割は、危機への備えと対応、知見に基づく発信、組織文化の形成、従業員との協働意識の向上、そして事実に根ざした透明性と説明責任の確立など多岐にわたり、その重要性は今後さらに高まっていきます。

IABCを通じて、皆さまと知見や洞察を共有し、信頼を軸としたコミュニティづくりに取り組んでいければ幸いです。

最後になりましたが、新任として至らない点によりご迷惑をおかけする場面もあるかもしれませんが、真摯に努めてまいります。今後とも温かいご指導・ご鞭撻を賜りますようお願い申し上げます。

IABCを通じて、新たな出会いと学びをご一緒できることを心より楽しみにしております。

Greetings from the new IABC Japan Chapter President,

My name is Kazuko Kotaki, and it is an honor to assume the role of President of the IABC Japan Chapter.

IABC Japan was founded and led for a decade by our inaugural president, Mr. Amemiya, who laid a strong foundation for the chapter. He was succeeded by Mr. Tsukiji, who dedicated five years to strengthening our international network and operational framework. I hold deep respect for the contributions of all past presidents, and I feel a profound sense of responsibility in carrying forward the legacy they have built.

My first encounter with IABC came shortly after returning from maternity leave—a time when I had temporarily lost sight of my career direction. Connecting with a global community of communication professionals opened new perspectives and became a turning point in my journey. In particular, close collaboration with the APAC leadership team in Australia and with IABC’s international conference headquarters in New York offered invaluable opportunities to participate in the management of a global nonprofit. These experiences broadened my worldview, expanded my network, and played a pivotal role in rebuilding my career.

Over the past three decades, my work in corporate communications and advisory roles has underscored the power of meaningful dialogue with diverse stakeholders. Looking ahead, I hope to learn alongside our members in Japan and communication professionals around the world, while working closely with our board to further enrich our chapter’s activities.

Today, advancements in technology, the rapid evolution of AI, and heightened geopolitical tensions have created a landscape where old assumptions no longer apply and the future is increasingly uncertain. In this context, communication expertise is more vital than ever for building and sustaining trust. Within organizations, it plays a key role in risk management, thought leadership, corporate culture, employee engagement, and transparency grounded in facts. The importance of these responsibilities will only continue to grow.

Through IABC, I look forward to sharing insights, learning together, and cultivating a community built on trust. While I may still have much to learn as your new chapter president, I am deeply committed to serving with sincerity and dedication—and I humbly ask for your continued guidance and support.

Thank you for the opportunity to grow together through IABC. I am excited about the connections and possibilities that lie ahead.
